10 And saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now.

Today’s competition is called the Beautiful Flag Competition ©. The rules are quite straightforward: simply state which flag is the more beautiful, giving your reasons why.

The winner will receive £10.00 which they may donate equally to any two charities of their choosing, so long as one of those charities helps Lebanese people, and the other helps Israeli people.

Yesterday, I withdrew a post about the conflict between Israel and Lebanon, as it was proving to be too controversial an issue.

Today, however, I noticed that visitor numbers to my blog had risen while the post was in place. The first thought to shoot through my mind was ‘Damn! Think of all those hits!’ For a second, I considered re-posting it.

I wonder if media bosses think in the same way?

It was found abandoned on top of a load of bin bags in York. The poor artist probably thought he had failed to convey the beauty before him – but we disagree! Well done and thank you to Germany for a superb World Cup 2006. Tainted only slightly by the childish antics of one or two players (Wayne Rooney, Cristiano Ronaldo) and one or two hundred neanderthal ‘supporters’, this was probably the most friendly and well-organised World Cup in living memory. Bravo.

FAIRSCAPE!

Fairscape won the competition because she wrote a lovely and very funny story about social ineptitude. Fairscape has kindly decided to donate her £10 winnings to a charity called Forward, which helps to promote and protect the health and human rights of African girls and women.

Second prize – a crinkled ten pound note – was awarded to Tillerman, who also wrote a great story about social ineptitude. Tillerman has generously chosen to donate his £10 winnings to a charity called Africare, which works to improve the quality of life for African people.
